— a point at which Israeli airstrike couldn’t meaningfully hinder Iranian nuclear work
So they are at that point now.
Israel, from all sources I have read, couldn’t hinder Iranian nuclear weapon program, even if Israel nuked Iran’s facilities. And while the use of nukes would be meaningful, I am not sure Israel wants to send Iran the same message Iran sent them.
Even if Israel could hinder Iran’s nuclear weapons program, if they actually have one, for a couple of Israeli elections, is that meaningful, and if not meaningful, what then?
Perhaps we should ask: “where does the guy want to hit them, in which it would be meaningful, for more than a couple of election cycles?”
“but I don’t believe these kinds of sanctions will bring the ayatollahs to a moment of truth where they sit around a table, look into each other’s eyes and decide that the game is over.”
I guess that just depends on where the table is.
