Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel sought Wednesday to justify to skeptical lawmakers the controversial swap of five hardened Taliban leaders for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, claiming the former Guantanamo detainees were planners, and had not directly participated in attacks on Americans.
Look, if Hagel isn’t worried about meeting these guys while walking point, hey, I don’t have a problem with their release.
But then I am, like most of those in Congress, a person who has no military experience, to qualify my statement in this matter.
On the other hand, I am sure those in Congress know that these guys have been out of service for quite awhile, so it is going to take some time and resources to get them back into the game.
Most likely by then the game will be over for them anyway, because they are now old, in 15th century terms, to be of much use.
