‘It’s going to hit the poorest people’: Zika outbreak feared on the Texas border | World news | The Guardian

Last November the state’s first reported case of local mosquito-borne Zika infection was in Brownsville, leading the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to designate the city, of about 185,000 people, a Zika “cautionary area” which pregnant women should consider avoiding.

As the way seem to be going: as abortion clinics shut down in the South, it is good to hear that much of the government still considers it a valued argument that those pregnant in certain situations should consider and avoid the event.

There were six cases of local transmission via mosquitoes reported in Brownsville in the final two months of 2016. This month the state health department issued a recommendation that all pregnant women in six border counties be tested in their first and second trimesters, as well as others exhibiting possible Zika symptoms.

It is also good, if true, that this administration and its followers stands by the recommendation to test.

May be considered a low bar in women affairs by many, but, then again, it is a start that by many was considered a higher bar, already won.

At U.N., Haley says U.S. is ‘prepared to do more’ in Syria

“It could be that Russia is knowingly allowing chemical weapons to remain in Syria. It could be that Russia has been incompetent in its efforts to remove the chemical weapons,” Haley said, echoing similar comments made by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson Thursday. “Or it could be that the Assad regime is playing the Russians for fools. Telling them that there are no chemical weapons, all the while stockpiling them on their bases.”

It seems to me that these are the kinds of questions Trump’s State Department should have been asking, and getting answers for, before a strike than after. If these are important questions, if they had actually asked them, why couldn’t they have waited for an answer, and would they have still bombed if these question had been answered?

Obviously, while they are asking these question, which may determine the appropriate US response, more people may have been gassed, but it might also mean there would have been a possibility that Russia would take action against Assad after realizing they have been fooled or Russia’s personnel are incompetent.

Of course if Assad’s story is correct, i.e. the sarin gas was produced by the insurgents and released when Assad bombed, there most likely would have been no more people dying from a sarin gas leak, unless there were many manufacturing areas that had remained hidden from the Russians and everyone else.

But asking these question and receiving answers to them is now pretty much a waste of time. The world now knows that the US will be willing to commit thousands of troops and trillions of dollars, without any answers to these, or perhaps any, questions.

But thanks U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley. Your questions may be  a dollar short (59 million) and a day late, but they should count for something, as Trump, although not very presidential, has shown he is a man of action, which is something.

On riding a rapidly accelerating world.. in slower motion

If I might shift the angle from which the current conversation views the world situation — rather than looking for revolution or evolution, might we not hope for transfiguration, theosis?

You can have acceleration without motion and motion without acceleration.

So if your world is in acceleration, one could be, at any moment, standing still. Your fortune depends on the forces on you.

If the sum of the forces on you is zero then you are not in motion.*Motion depends on displacement not force. If there is space for your motion to displace into, you are in motion. If there is not a space for you to displace into, and you are in motion, then acceleration takes place.

So acceleration and motion are related, but only by time. The time of acceleration–the beginning and end of time, of motion.

When you feel like you are running out of time, the force in that feeling of end, accelerates you forward and motion takes place, as your space opens up.

When you feel you have plenty of time, the force on you is not so great and you have no feeling of accelerating forward.

In this scenario, the space is closed and motion does not exist. However, because of the plentifulness of time, the forces are not zero (you have the addition through time in your force of life) and so you accelerate (forward).

As I grow older, the blessing should become: ” May the motion be with you.”

At least that is the way I feel, dimensionally, sometimes.

Donald Trump Sets a Bar for Russia and China – WSJ

President-elect Donald Trump wants to emphasize flexibility in dealing with America’s two largest strategic rivals, basing the relationships on the degree to which China and Russia cooperate with U.S. economic, diplomatic and military priorities.

Exactly. China, into the benevolent leader, you are on board–Russia a little thuggish, OK.
